Project Vision and Systemic Impact
The PREVENT project represents a high level EU4Health initiative dedicated to establishing a comprehensive, prevention-oriented framework for mental health within the European justice and probation sectors. By addressing critical systemic deficiencies in suicide prevention, mental health literacy, and professional resilience, the project targets a wide array of stakeholders, including correctional staff, probation officers, and frontline community professionals who interact with vulnerable groups such as ex offenders, homeless individuals, and veterans. These populations are statistically more susceptible to mental health challenges and suicide risk, yet they frequently face a lack of coordinated cross-sector support and policy coherence.
Strategic Objectives and Innovation
To mitigate these challenges, PREVENT employs an integrated, multi-sectoral strategy designed to refine early identification, assessment, and referral processes through evidence based interventions. Central to this effort is a specialized training curriculum that empowers justice professionals with competencies in crisis management and prevention while simultaneously prioritizing their own psychological well being. Furthermore, the development and piloting of standardized digital risk assessment tools will modernize screening processes within probation services, ensuring continuity of care across Europe.
TRENTINPLUSEUROPE’s Collaboration
TRENTINPLUSEUROPE occupies a pivotal role in this transnational consortium as the lead partner for Work Package 2 (WP2): State of the Art Analysis and Collection of Best Practices. Our organization spearheads the scientific foundation of the project by conducting a multi country needs analysis and evaluating current mental health strategies across Italy and Europe. We are responsible for the identification of evidence based interventions and the creation of a "best practices" repository that informs the project's training modules. Through this rigorous research and the organization of national roundtables and policy dialogues, TRENTINPLUSEUROPE ensures that the project’s outcomes are grounded in practical utility, ultimately fostering a more resilient and prevention-oriented justice system throughout the European Union.
